It is with great sadness and with a heavy heart that we announce the death of retired Sergeant David William Gallagher. Dave passed away mid evening, Sunday the Ninth of February 2025 in the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Dave spent 40 years serving the people of New South Wales, especially those of the Barrier Ranges. Dave was a recipient of the Australian Police Medal. On behalf of B2B, ( Back to Barrier ) our deepest condolences and sympathy are extended to Julie and the rest of Dave’s family. We are here to give them all the support and love we can. Please keep Dave and his family in our hearts while they go through this very difficult time. Tydvil Hotel & Bistro  ·

Dave was not just a regular patron at Tydvil Hotel & Bistro and Broken Hill Distillery, he was part of our furniture/family. Dave was always there to give a helping hand, have a joke, give advice, lend an ear and solve a problem or make things happen. As a whole, I think Broken Hill has lost its greatest Ambassador. He was forever selling the town to anyone with a pair of ears, even some without (that’s another story). He had seen the good, the bad and the ugly during decades of Police service in town and still thought it was the greatest place on earth. Our thoughts are with his family as they look to the future, though remembering the past with fondness. Dave has been our greatest supporter and promoter and will be dearly missed by all here. This man will be mentioned in conversations with fondness, for many years to come.

ABC Broken Hill 

21 February 2025 @ 4.34pm Hundreds of mourners have gathered at Broken Hill’s Civic Centre for the funeral of Dave Gallagher who died after complications following a stroke at the Royal Adelaide Hospital on February 9. The retired police sergeant dedicated most of his life to the community, first in the NSW Police before becoming a Broken Hill City Council councillor in 2011. Barrier Police District officers and former colleagues led the procession.
